Please can you advise me, Just aquired a Kak as my son returned home after a 3 year relationship gone wrong. She is roughly 18 months old and has been laying eggs. Can you tell me what we are to do, she has 2 at present. Will she just get fed up with doing this on her own. Quite a few have been laid up to now.

hi.

my kakariki was laying a lot of eggs last year and the vet told us to leave the eggs in there and that once she realised they werent going to hatch she would abandon them, and that if we took them out before then she would just keep laying more to replace them and would wear herself out.

we left them in but my kakariki wasnt interested in the eggs once they were layed, she'd kick them about a bit and then leave them, and any boxes we put in for nesting boxes, she just chewed up into pieces.
eventually she stopped laying eggs and so far we havnt had any more.

i think u should probably leave the eggs in the cage and just see what she does!

Hi Hazel

Ive got 2 female kaki's and 1 male one

We recently moved one of the females from the large cage we have because she was getting bullied by the male and other female.

She lays eggs by herself in her own cage, we leave them because like Lizzie said, we removed them at first, but she kept laying more to replace the ones we took out.

Now when we leave them, she gets bored of the eggs realising they wont hatch, and shes a lot better because of it, not as worn out as before, takes a lot of energy to lay eggs!

My advice would be to leave them in there, she will soon realise that theres no point in laying eggs and stop doing it as often.

Thanks for your advice. Now she's actting strange at times. Whilst perched she leans forward, makes chuckling noises, fluffs herself up as if she's straining. Whilst she's doing this you can put your hand in the cage and stroke her chest which she dosen't normally allow. Is this Normal ?.
