hello, i have 2 kakarikis 1 male and 1 female. they are approx 10 months old and purchased from a pet store. i have had them for around 4 weeks and the female is starting to respond to me although she won't come too close yet. the male however sits on his top perch very rarely comes out and every time the female attempts to get close he squaks and she flies away from us... is the male supposed to be so dominant towards her or is there something wrong with him??
thanks in advance....

We often see similar behavour in our avaries.
A female is quite freindly, then move to the holding flight, if she pairs up with a male..., it is he who decides if she can come down.
I think it is a prorective thing...If the male is friendly and we have his trust, he will let her come down, thu he usually comes down 1st, takes the food, calls her down and may feed her or let her then take food.

Hiya davinapip & w3c

Yes, I agree - it is typical of the male to be bossy (as in any species, signlol!).

You'll need to try & work on getting him to like you.
