wall just rescued a kakariki from rspca and dont know if hes tame or not I think hes male as he has a really pale blue beak. He doesnt seem to like you when you go in his cage flies all over but when you sit near him he is doing his best to get out of the cage, walking backwards and forewards etc. any suggestions on taming him would be great cos dont know much about his history cos he was captureed flying free.

Place the cage in a quiet cnr of the room ..let him get used to his cage/home, and observe without attewntion for a week
Then let him out, he will go back to HIS home after a while...Dont approach him, let him find his bearings without been threatened.
Place the cage next to a chair where u sit, read a book, just let him releasise that there is not threat.
After a few days of this, read a book, with your hand in the cage with a bit of fruit for 1/4 to 1/2
repeat this 2 or 3 times a day.
Rem let him come to u. ...in his time

Keep in mind hes been chassed with nets, ppl poke fingers in his cage..so hes going to be rather nervious, for quite a while.

There is a detailed thread on diet
Yes there is arsenic in apple seeds and several other foods. We have never bothered to remove the seeds

The amount of arsenic in apple seeds is pretty small. Arsenic is poisonous to us humans but we can eat a good amount of apple seeds b4 we get ill.
