I purchased my Kakariki here in Ontario, Canada. I got her/him, I've decided it's a male, on September 21st and I was told that at the end of September he'll be a whole 2 months old. I am just wondering why Tiki will jump out onto my shoulder and sit with me for extended periods of time BUT, as soon as I go to 'stroke' his feathers, he shy's away from me. I'm trying not to let this hurt my feelings. Is he just too young yet or are all Kakaraiki's hand shy ?? :?: I've had other parrots and they were all VERY affectionate. Is something wrong ?? Think

It sounds as if this bird is aviary reared...not a problem to taming with kakariki...and has been weaned a little early or at bare min time.
Kakariki are not a 'cuddly "bird, they are more independent by nature.
Also Kakariki don't have a natural fear of man, which helps.
Taming down is simply a manner gaining the total trust in their time, never force, let them come to u. A very satisfying 'project'
For more in depth info, run a forum search for words in the 'quick search' block to the left... taming trust will get u the results.

And w3c to our community.
