Recently my Kakariki starting making loud chirping sounds that go for about 10 seconds and than he starts again. Is there a reason for it?

U may like to try hand feeding when does this
Down side is if he sort of adopts you he could get rather possessive of you and intimidate / nip anyone that he may feel jealous of.

This is a common trait with most household pets, but intensity varies between species and breeds

Yah we actually were when i posted this. It makes a lot of sense than. He actually has stopped doing it as much. Is there a way to see if its a male or female by this or they both do it?

Not really
Males tend to be larger birds with big beaks.. female beaks look smaller delicate
On the under side of the wing is a yellow strip.
The male is ill-defined, the femalehas a definite stripe

Put up a front on head shot pic of the bird
Using the "quick Search" block on the left you will find forum threads of the stripes and other birds beaks to compare

I actually can't figure out how to put up a picture and have tried multiple times. on the color he is yellow so i am guessing i can't tell by that. I am going to try again.
