Hello

am just looking for some advice, I purchased a 3 month old male last night from a couple who could no longer give him the care and attention that he needs.
firstly should his nails be long or short as these are long and i think they should be short?
secondly I have sat with the cage door open most of the day and he will not come out we have tried to persuade him but he seems scared so ive just left this open until he feels safe to come out any advise on him will be very helpful as i want him to be happy

Many thanks

Kakariki have longer nails when compared to other similar birds.
We have had rescued kakariki with excessive long nails.. before we have got around to timing, they have chewed and snapped the excessive length off leaving a very tidy result.
Those occasions are the only times we have had to deal with long nails over several decades and numbers now running into well over a 1000
