my kakariki has just suddenly started attacking the other, they are both male. could anyone tell me why this might be please? they are both around 18months old.
How big is the aviary?
Have either ever been around females before?
Do u have other kakariki around.. even in hearing distance?
Are they attacking, all on .. or rather sever intimidation? _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
They are indoors in a large parrot cage but fly out 2\3 times a day!
They don't other kakarikis nearby and I have only recently got them but I believe one has been in contact if not both, it was more sever intimidation and sqauking!
How long have they been together?
was one resident and the other added?
If so then one has had his 'bedroom' and his private chair , shelves 'invaded' by a stranger.....
See where this is going?
basically when introducing new birds to flights... unless there is already a flock there.....one creates a totally new environment... new perches, feeding dishes toys water... at differing heights in new places... everything.
Then introduce them to THEIR new bedroom together and they will sort out who gets the 'top bunk' perch themselves after a few little squabbles
This doesnt just apply to kakariki, even introducing a hen into an established hen house of 3 or hens.. has to be done at night, and care... otherwise the rest are liable to kill the new comer for treading on their territory uninvited. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
