Hi

Started a new topic as clearly the parents had abandoned the chick and the upshot of that is that I have one inside to handrear. I was already worried, but now more so and wonder if anyone has any thoughts. Chick is now 4 weeks plus 6 I think, and overnight there was a second episode of blood stained fluid and a small blob of something closer to actual blood. Chick appears well but weighing her this morning I found she was 51 grams which is quite a significant loss.

As mentioned, she is not enthusiastic about feeding at all and rarely do I manage to get more than 4 mls, but short of forcefeeding her or using a crop needle which I've never done before, I can't make her take it. Upping the number of feeds isn't working as she refuses it. Her crop is emptying well overnight so I don't suspect sour crop. This morning she took a larger amount, about 6mls but I can't help but feel it's not going well for this little one.

I'm an experienced hand-rearer of cockatiels, and I know they are very vigorous head bobbers when it comes to asking for food but every mouthful this little one actual gets, most dribbles back out.

Thank you in advance for any help.
