Hi I've had my Kakariki' for around 4 months I got 2 brothers and they where so tame and friendly unfortunately we lost a brother due to an accident and subsequently we bought a female. Everything has be great these last to months and the female is starting to become less frightened but today very strangely my male (Gilligan) has started to attack me when I approach my hand he opens his mouth and bites me, also when he does go on the finger straight away he jumps to my face and attack me..!!
Any advise why this has changed all of a sudden many thanks.
u may notice hes also getting defensive around his female to...
Basically hes 'dumped' is old 'girlfriend ' for the new one.
Thats what happens when one introduces possible competition _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

or... ... , that's the problem of hand-breading. Cocks getting adult mostly are running against everything: hens, careing persons and invantory. But there's an answer we're waiting on ...
Today having my male out he was on my chest, I was whistling at him and he looked fine and all of a sudden spread his wings and ran, yes ran at my face and attacked me and bit my face..!!
in my experience this misbehaviour is shown from 90% of the male handbread kakariki. There's no barrier of fear to prevent them of attacking their carer, simply - your are a kind of kakariki coming into his territory, and he is doing his job
Oh by the way - our "Rocky" is a handbread too, and also he is doing his job very well,
We are lucky, he met a nice kakariki-girl, fell in love... . There are only few minutes left, that he is showing a kind of misbehaviour, but still it habbens and Rocky is a 16 years old!
And it is normal to just start happening even though he has been so tame in the past?
Every bird is different...have their own personalities...
It is not uncommon for kakariki and many other species to become very territorial/ defensive of their mate....be it hand or aviary raised.
usually after 2 to 5 batches of chicks they become a lot more relaxed with familiar ppl and surroundings
Its usually the male attacking male ppl and ok with females. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
