Hi all, im quite new to kakariki keeping and got my first kakariki about 4 months ago. i got a male and female with the intentions of letting them breed. however they dont seem to have any intentions of mating, they are kept in an aviary with no other birds except quail, they dont fight or squabble they just dont seem interested. i was just wondering if there is anything i can do to help them "get in the mood" with diet, habitat etc. the female is about 12 month old and im not sure how old the male is. i have put a nest box in, i feed them on a good balance diet as described in the earlier posts, i give them bits of meat and bone for protein and also made egg food available for them. is there anything else to try or do you think they are just not compatable? any hep would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
P.S. love the site, great source of info with friendly members.
Often just throwing 2 random birds together doesnt always mean they will pair off...
We tend to let selected birds pair off in a flock... and when we do w notice those not closely related or unrelated will pair up, closely related birds dont tend to as much.
Try 2 nesting boxes...and change their location/ cage.. a new environment sometimes helps. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
i will put another nesting box but would be hard to change environment as they are in a aviary unless you think changes positions of perches , boxes etc would do the trick?
