Hi, I am new to the forum.
I have a Kakariki that was given to us about 6 months ago after being badly neglected. At first he was very quiet and didn't come out of his cage. Now he is full of beans and follows us around the house, lands on us and helps himself to any food that happens to be within his reach. I noticed the other day when he was sitting next to me that he looked like he was chewing his foot. As I watched him I noticed some white googy stuff on his foot which he was eating. I thought he had an infection but his foot was perfectly fine. Then this stuff appeared again and again he ate it. I assume he was regurgitating this stuff as it happened several times. Is thing normal behaviour or is something wrong with him? He seems very fit and healthy but I know birds can be good at hiding illness.

Yes birds can regurgitate and eat, like a cow chewing its cud ?I suppose.
Even so it is not a habit We are familar with on a common basis.
Often parrots will regurgitate against a mirror, as if feeding another bird , then re eat.

Does the bird sort of stretch its neck sort of give a big yawn, and occasional sneeze?
This is likely to indicate crop worms, which could also relate to the described behavour.....
Requires a vet to does for these worms...
When we get rescued birds like that , they get the full treatment, the apple cider vinegar...(which is also routine part of maintenance) couple drops invermectin on the back of the neck repeated 10 to 12 days later...mist spray with 50/50 vinegar/ water. And isolated for at least 4 weeks.

Thanks for your reply. No, he doesnt yawn or sneeze, but does seem to have a fascination for his foot. He sits with it in the air and looks at it for ages. Will get him wormed to be on the safe side.
