I just wanted to give you all a huge thanks to everyone here who gave me heaps of advice on my Kaks and the hen that had lost he first 2 clutches of eggs.

I am happy to report that she has successfully bought out 3 babys from 5 eggs, all of which have now taken flight with dad.

She is now sitting on another 5 eggs.

Steptoe, your feeding advice has been invaluable. Your vegi mix is now being fed to all my birds and the results are stunning.

I now have my Princess Parrots sitting on 5 eggs, both pairs of Kaks are sitting, one on 5 the other has laid her first batch of 9.

My Ringnecks have 4 eggs, Alex's on 4 eggs, 2 pairs of Cockatiels down and One Pair of Kings on 3 eggs.

I have been feeding this vegi mix for 2 months now and it was like a switch was thrown. I never understood the importance of the proper nutrition. I used to spare no expense on the best quality seed, now the buggers harldy touch it, but gorge themselves on the vegies.

So a huge thanks to you all guys.

Happy Kaking

Jamie

I strated out years ago on the veggie/ meat/ vinegar thing after studing and being familar with the wild habitate of kakariki... hikeing tramping in my youger days...
Replacing much with what is in the garden at home, and supermarkets.
And the result in my birds over other 'tradtional' breeders was quite marked, from their comments and observations.
Too me it was just plain old common sence... they evoved that way so why do different... and its cheaper easier.... Shocked
So 'while at it' feed the same to our kings , crimsons, turqs , quail, burkes , cockerils (when had them)....
Now years later, none of our birds except the quail, burkes, turqs eat very much seeds at all, and even less when feeding chicks in the nest.

Down side is I have to now chop up a lot more veggies and feed a lot more.... upside the veggies, meat and use of scrapes is way cheaper than quailty live seed....seed trays last near on 3 weeks instead of 2, but choping means about 20 mins extra work a week... thu doing seed trays 1/3 less over all makes up for that.

It is nice to know about the same with other species like princess and ring necks too.....
