A recent post by Allen mentioned "stop bleeding", so I thought it was worth a mention in here.
Allen mentions 2 remedies, both we have used and worked
1/Antiseptic power to the wound
2/baby (talcum power)
We have also used both successfully.
Some time ago we hand a bird go into a big panic, heart 'pumping 13 to the dozen' , it crashed hard into the mesh cutting just above the beak.
The bleeding wouldn't stop, even the above didn't work...
We started to panic...it was a female feeding fresh chicks.
We obtained several Silver Nitrate sticks, a couple seconds pressure of one of these to the wound and instant clot.
A silver nitrate stick is a small tooth pick with and end that has been soaked in Silver Nitrate. These must always be kept in a sealed container and no light...a camera film container suits the bill 100%
These have the effect of cauterising the wound instantly.
A small supply of these is a must for any aviary 1st Aid Kit. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

I still have a fluid left from the time that I was obliged to cut the yorkies tails ( thanks god it s no longer permitted in holland), its called
FERRI CHLORIDE and it stops the bleeding at once.
However when I have a bleeding bird ( parrot) I always use meal used for making coockies.
By the way, I have f funny story about that....
my daughter called me and told me that her pet rabbit had fallen and broken two toe-nails and that they were badly bleeding.
I adviced her to stopthe bleeding with backing powder, and she called back and said it did not work, the rabbit was to wild and the bleeding dod not stop.
As she arrived, after having travelled for at least half an hour, I first looked at het bottum of the rabbits cage.... no blood.
But her clothes and from her hubby were al white, and the rabbit?
He was very happy because his wounds did not bleed anymore. l0l/ l0l/
