i am new to kakis ...i keep grn cheek conures mainly .......but i have a pied kaki that i do not know the sex of i have taken a couple of pics if anyone can help as i would like to get it a mtae ....thank you phil [][/img] [][/img]

Is this a very young bird?
Appears to be male.. 90% sure.

Have a look thru a few other threads on the subject and in the gallery.
Is there a clear strip under the wing? or one that is rather faded.
If well defined female.
We dont have mutations in NZ so not sure how well the stripe comes out on them.

i have already gone over quite a few threads using the search button .....very good site i must say ....diet wise i think they are similar to what i feed my conures already plenty of green and fruit . I have a spare aviary i am going to use for one pair of kakarikis as they are very amusing birds , its 4m x 1.5m. Will check for the underwing stripe now .......thanks agin phil

had a look and i suppose as it is a pied mutation it is plain yellow underwings ......

Im pretty sure its a male....
Had 2 instance out of over 1200 kakariki we have had larger female, mistaken for a male ... but never managed to breed off them when they have hooked up with a good male.

Another way to tell is if the head is sort of flat or round.. this is with most parrot species. Bu unless .. espec in kakariki, you have several others to compare directly with is hard to tell
