everyone i just bought 2 kakariki from a breeder and this is my first time to have a pet birds.. The first 3 days they were very loud and once the sun up they started talking.. But started from yesterday i noticed they are not as loud as before .... and didnt make too much noise.. (Both of then)Are they sick ? What do i have to do??
If from a breeder, the birds would have been calling between aviaries and flights to other birds, and/ or to other birds in the holding flight.
Hence why noisy for 1st few days... calling and not getting a reply.
So now they will be settling down to their new environment.
A bird and many animals, espec in the wild, will hide early symptoms of illness... generally any sign results in natures cull by predators.
With birds the 1st general signs are the iris/ eyes loss 'brightness' alertness...the feather loose the sheen/ gloss, they become a little lethargic. Depending on the illness, may sneeze more often, stools become watery.
Kakariki as a species are very hardy.. but prevention by simple diet methods is generally all thats needed.
Reputable breeders/ retailer will dose their birds for mites / worms etc before selling, and supply a the 2nd dose for 10 days later... if have sold before the 10 days.
