Was talking to a friend and she mentioned there are no red ones in sth Island, but last xmas I was walking along Ta Anau Lake during a family trip and found a dead one in the bush close to the lake. I picked it up to inspect it and sure it was a red-fronted, died not that long ago. So I'm always under the impression there are heaps of reds in the south. Are there really no surviving groups of reds down south?

Living close to Zealandia we sight one or two of those banded ones now and then but I don't really consider them wild Rolling Eyes

In the fare south you'll have a good change to see red fronted in the nature. Fjordland is a perfect place or Stuart Island

Mostly Yellow in S Island. Good number of reds in Stewart Island. Sommes Island in Wellington is a good spot for reds and a good way to spend a day
