If the females is too young, she will resist choosing the male ...The male has already selected a suitable nesting box, waiting her approval, but since she is too young.. or what ever reason, dosent approve, therefore resists mating, and he becomes pushy.
The long term result of this is they never mate and she spends most of her time hiding in the bottom of the nesting box.

If they pair off , like most parrots , they become territorial around their nest... basically anything in line of sight upto about 7 to 10m s away.

We keep large flocks 30 to 60 kakariki in a in a flight about 6m Lx 4m W 2m H no nesting boxes , nps
But in a flight of say 6 pair, 2.4mL 1.2m W x 2m H drop a nest box in and within 24 hrs trouble happens.
Or put a pair that have already mated up.. trouble.

1 pair per flight, 2 nesting boxes.....
Another larger flight to hold 2 or 3 single males.
Approx 3 or 4 days after the chicks emerge from the nesting box, remove them to the holding flight The single male , immediately go into 'uncling ' mod and take over weaning the young birds.
U can keep on adding young birds.....
But keep a very close eye at pollution levels... floors, seed trays, and water trays. As pollution increase so does the maintenance, cleaning etc .. dramatically.

Cheers
Steps.
