Hi all, sorry I did a search and couldn't find a previous thread on this one.

I was happy the other day when I found an egg in one of the boxes. I checked the next day and there wasn't a second egg, so I just thought to wait another day. It has been 4 days now and still no second egg.

There are a few females in the cage but from what I know, there is only one truly bonded pair.

I am now thinking what to do with this egg. I believe if an egg is not incubated within a week that it will go stale.

So if there isn't a second egg within a day or two, I'm thinking to try and move the egg under a budge (I have a few english budgies who have just started incubating their eggs - the Kakariki egg is a bit bigger but I think it's worth a shot).

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on the above. Thanks.

yep just move to a budgie anyway

Its not a good idea to breed kakariki.. well most parrots in a community flight environment as they get territorial.. spend too much time defending rather than breeding activities, eggs go stale, chicks dont get feed etc.
Yes we have done so, but took several years to establish the communty in which it happened, several times... but where never able to repeat establishing another one.

thanks for that. i'll move to a budgie immediately then.

i'm very curious though as to why the hen would lay one egg and then not lay anymore..i always thought that once they lay, the eggs keep coming (unless they are moved or severley disturbed).

cheers

Things just get screwed up... same reason with flights side by side.. block off the nesting boxes and surrounding area line of sight between the 2.[/quote]
