3 months to the day I bought a breeding pair of Kakarikis. They are great in every way and have even started to eat food out of my hand.
The one problem I have is that the female laid an egg in her nesting box (couldn't wait to see the growth of a new bird :D) but 3 days later the male destroyed the egg..
I wouldn't believe this is normal behaviour but this is my first time breeding this bird (or any bird for that matter). Is this normal? Or has something I did or other caused this to happen?

No this is not normal behavour...
I shudder every time someone says they have brought a breeding pair...
As a breeder there is no way I would sell my breeding pairs, unless down sizing my operation...be silly.
And if down sizing it is unlikely I would be selling off my fresh breeding pairs.
yes I have paired pairs up out of the holding avairy, but they have not actually breed , but show signs of a relationship taking place.
A breeder selling of breeding pairs I get very suspicious of the claim...
Rogue birds do happen occassionaly, I have seen 2 , heard of a couple others, so it is rather rare... but these have attacked other birds, just down right agressive bullies even out of breeding season....But since it is best to have 1 pair per flight breeding, and I have not tried to breed off a rogue bird as he is likely to kill the female...and if not I have no ideawhat he would do with eggs or chicks.
I have never had a male destroy eggs and we have breed well over 1000 kakariki in just resent yrs.
I have had and seen eggs destoried by rats and mice......back in the very early days of breeding. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

My apologies, I never realised. Won't happen again.
Thank you for your reply. I didn't think this was normal behaviour, could be be possibly because they didn't build a 'nest' in their nesting box?
I ask because they have set up a nest in the box this time and gave birth again.
Also are they scared of the colour blue? as when I am using my dumbbells (which are blue) they tend to freak out, or do could it be because of my lifting the weights back and forth?
