My kak pair are raising a single surviving chick which is now 11 days old. This is their first clutch and it seemed to take them a while to work out the whole child-rearing business but this one is doing well.
This afternoon I found a newly laid egg. I hadn't got around to providing a second nestbox yet (I had no idea she'd go down again so quickly) so she's clutching in the same box with the baby. Is it safe to leave the baby with her or will she get snarky with it? I don't want to pull it to handraise unless I have to as I'd rather the pair have the experience of raising at least one baby to weaning.
Do I leave it there, or pull it, or put the second box in now? Help!
