Hi
I have at present a 5x2x3 flight which houses 4 budgies (male) 2pair cockatiels (one pair on second clutch) 1 pair of Kaks (on 6 chicks) 2 bourkes 4 canaries 2 diamond doves and a male Pennant (would love a hen Pennant but all has been peace for over a year and wouldn't want to risk it.
u are very lucky to be able to breed the kakariki in there without them intiodiating the other birds...
the same applies to breeding burkes. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Hi, I had a pair of kaks, with two nest boxes in my aviary with several young budgies. No eggs had been laid at this stage but lots of lovin. When the parent budgies were reintroduced to aviary after breeding in separate cage, I kept an eye on them. The female budgie ended up killing the female kak in the nestbox and then sat in next box with dead kak til I arrived home from work. I couldnt find my kak hen and when i did, she wasnt pretty. The female budgie had made a mess of her. Budgies are lovely when not breeding. I have a very large aviary now with cockatiels, budgies and kaks, and 1 poor lonely finch. I have breed most of the budgies and cockatiels so they are quite quiet. Lots of feeding stations and fresh bottlebrush keeps them happy/busy. i intend to try my hand at breeding some kaks but will never do so in a mixed flight aviary now.

As a side note: This may sound a weird question...was the budgie blue?
We used to have budgies many years ago and had a lot of trouble with only blue budgies being agreesive to full on rogue birds... NPs with other colur budgies... Since then we have come across quite a few others who have had similar issues with blue budgies ??????? _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
No Steptoe, not blue. Tho ive never had much luck with blue budgies. I have never been able to keep blue budgies alive or breed with them. The hen was a lutino, great breeder, laying and hatching nine eggs most clutches. Last year I allowed her to have two clutches (both with nine chicks) but this year only allowed one. She obviously thought she wasnt finished.
I've had problems with hen Budgies in the past with finches etc, they are a real menace and wouldn't reccomend breeding then im with anything else. So don't breed them now I keep only males as I like the added colour and noise the bring
