Hi
Just thought i would add some pics of our Kakariki enclosure. There is 11 red fronted kakariki in the display contemplating putting some yellows in as well.

thats cool...best displays are always side on rather than deep.

nesting boxes? thats asking for trouble in a community flight

I used to have trees 'growing' up...most have been pulled out of the flights now.....rather suspended branches horozonally.....big forked, and even old purri fence posts

vertical trees are a pain to clean around and give far less perches and type of perches.....and the small twiggs are far more likely to snag if the birds have leg rings

For some reason people put perches at the back of a disply flight....we have large perches suspended across the front, just above head height is best...this brings the birds down, espec if thats where they sun bath

Another issue...not a major as far as the grey background.....backgrounds should represent the colour(s) of their natural envitoment....ie a dark green and/or brown.....this way the birds are far more settled, less stressed because they dont feel as if they stand out.

Cheers
Steps

Hi
Steptoe we should have all males however one is a bit suspicious. The nest box is in to stop people from saying its mean to have no nest box for the bird. There hasnt been any trouble yet however if there is it will be taken out. Thanks for the advise.

Dont get me wrong, thats an impressive setup.....just a few thinks we have learnt over the last decade or so...

Only 11 ?? will hold way more than that nps.
Its just a mter of how many watyer troughs are in there , how big, and how often u need to clean floors.

A good sized flock makes far happier birds and far more entertiaining for visitors.

I believe you :)

I get asked everytime if the birds don't die because of the cold, especially the kakariki :)
