ive just been reading through some threads.... and realised i dont actually know what my breeding birds are(apart from yellow) ..... i just call them the banana family .... but thought that meant they were lutinos
mum n dad have no green on but after 1 of their first babies sprouted 2 green feathers i looked closer and discovered mum has a patch in the same place but its not really green just dull yellow ........ the other 4 babies dont have any green either ..... 5 more chicks dont have feathers yet so.......
the other thing is..... they all have black eyes.... no red ring at all
i need to sell some of the babies and id like to know so i can advertise them correctly
thanks for any help with this ... _________________ May........

Hi May,I would say they are yellow black eyed clears, the picture of your hen looks like she may have a red eye, if she has then they are split lutino, hope that helps. Laurie.
Just found this from a while back..... Petals eyes are in fact black but the flash on the camera picked them out red. Ive noticed a lot of adverts in the UK online and also pet shops selling yellow birds as Lutino even tho the birds have black eyes... _________________ May........
There are a lot of threads by top breeders around the world discussing names used in different parts of the world, differences, mutations, crosses etc. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
your "banana family" (I laughed hard with this one, very sharp!) are a combination of:
dominant pied and recessive pied
Then... that combination receives a name. Depending on the region/country, they are refered to as goldcheck, BEC (black-eyed clear), DEC (dark-eyed clear.), etc...
By no means they are lutino.
Supposedly in kakariki we don't have yet the lutino mutation, and apparently the yellow birds with red eyes are indeed a combination of goldcheck + fallow.
As Steps says, if you search around the forum, you'll find plenty of discussions about this topic.
