There have been several discussions on this..
General rule of thumb seems to be about 8 to 12 yrs in capitivity...there are many factors, diet , conditions etc.
Some of the breeders here have had kakariki otr to 18 yrs, exception and 12 to 15 not uncommon.

Mine are 11yrs old and haven't slowed down a bit. They don't seem old at all.

I've had my Kakariki since 1993 and he was 1 when i got him. So he is 20 years old. Finally starting to age a little. Recently he started not talking as much but still flies around checking out everything and one for that matter =)

He is a red fronted male non breeder hope that helps. I thought they lived longer like a big parrot, but after reading most peoples experiences I'm realizing he's pretty old. Kind of makes me sad.

My brothers have hit 12 yrs.
Same thing, red fronted male, non breeders...and spoiled.
4 cages to go back and forth to.

I'm hoping 20.

My first kak died of misadventure at 7 1/2.

Sad to say that answer was just over 12yrs for one of my brothers. Crying or Very sad

I found my Dallas bird dead. Keeled to one side with eyes open.
He was still warm and I was hoping there was some life left, but no.

He was fine earlier and gave me a shake. @ 4 hrs later, he was dead.
Was eating and drinking fine.

I dunno if his brother had something to do with it. His brother has been a jerk for a few weeks for some reason. Homie seemed to be bugging his brother a lot more.
We'll see how Homie makes out without a brother for the first time ever.

Who was dominant before?
Is it possible that Homie was trying to get on top of hierarchy because he sensed his brother was getting older?

Were they acting like a pair (m-f), or rather as a "flock of 2 males"?
