Hello everyone! :)

Would you be so kind to assist me in one thing? My couple Kakariki's have 4 chicks approximately 3 weeks old. Parents take care of them very well, but they are growing and Nest is becoming smaller for them. Can you advice me when is the best time to remove chicks from the nest? currently they can't be fed independently and if I remove them and put them in cage on ground will parents still continue taking care of them? or you prefer to put them in seperate cage?

Need advice for next steps. Also I don't have a second Nest. Female seems fine, and I don't want any more eggs.

THANKS A LOT :)

How big.. in particular the floor area of the nest box?
4 chicks is not very many.. 6 to 8 chicks the norm after the 1st couple batches.
A nest box approx 200mm sq is good for even 10 /12 chicks.

A pair that have been together , breed several time, familar with the nest boxes, surroundings, will swap between nest boxes, or transported in nest boxes to a new flight nps..

A pair on their 1st batch.. possibly 2nd are most likely to consider the current environment insecure and abandon.

Also I don't have a second Nest.
Once the adult pin feathers start to appear, the female gets ready for the next laying... another suitable nesting box, if there is not one, and her priority is the next batch , not the current (at all), start to lay in the current box than at some point consider any chicks from the 1st batch, invaders and damage even kill them.
Covered in many previous posts and threads.l
Also that when decide to breed, think a little ahead.. what to do, where to keep previous batches while the male weans them off... or better still a large holding flight, where older males will 'uncle' wean them off.

Keep in mind a pair will produce a batch of , on ave 6 to 7 chicks every 8 to 10 weeks...often up to 10 or 12 chicks per batch.
