Hi folks. I'm a new member in the UK and I am going to be introducing a young bird {Kakariki} into my household in about a weeks time. Any tips on settling in the bird and getting it used to us initially. I also have dogs who will be no bother to the bird but I would like them all to get along. Thanks
Caged bird?
For the 1st few days just let the ird settle in..sit beside, walk past but dont interact.. you are letting them know you , and the dogs are no threat.
The big thing is to have their cage as their place where they are safe, where hey feed and go back to roost at night.
Just watch their body language, their feathers espec the crop.. the moment the bird tends to freeze, feathers lift sightly, either back of slowly, or as things progress , freeze, till the settle .
From there..
use the "quick search" block on the left things like taming diet
Rem kakariki unlike other birds, tend to be very active and independent.. you more co habit like a friend rather than a cuddly toy. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Thanks for that. Caged bird yes, and through reading previous posts and your suggestions, I have gathered a couple of branches and taken out the dowling perches...
