This is a new issue for me.
Vitamin deficiency .. Dont know if that maybe right thu... may be a mineral deficiency maybe? or combination more likely if correct
On the other hand its not hard to have such issues with kakariki.
One must look at how kakariki.. and other NZ native birds/ animals evolved. No mammals..which means so many evolved with similar behaviours and diets to mammals on the forest floor. Also not having the large grass lands of other places..(pre 1st human habitation only 1200yrs ago) diets consisted of fruit/ berries/ vegetation and high protein grubs.
Most owners assume kakariki have high seed diets like most other bird/ parrot species..rather than veggies, fruit, protein (meat)

There is a thread "what do you feed..." read that.

Im far more likely to think that maybe it is injury related.. possible while being handled in the nesting box, or being hand reared when very young. When chicks are very young they cant support themselves on their legs.. they have enough trouble just holding their heads up initially. If handles a little rough, or dropped, or simply get a leg caught that may damage a nerve, or create a situation where a nerve could get pinched.
Incorrect handling of very young chicks can also result in dislocated hip joints.. which may pop back into place ... this can also cause nerve damage as above.
The latter, above if that is the case there is no long term soln to the reoccurring problem.
