I'm new to owning kakarikis and I'm just wondering if what I'm feeding them is varied enough. I feed them cockatiel seeds and keeping the sunflower seed to a minimum but also I feed them carrots, kiwi, cucumber and pineapple but I'm just wondering is there anything else I should be giving them?? I absolutely love my kakarikis I named them Nico and Freda and they have their own personalities, my male Nico being the funniest my female Freda is slowly coming out of her shell. Also they are trying to breed but Freda seems to have very little patience for Nico when he tries to mate with her, is this normal??
ok thank you that info has been a big help :) I have been trying to tame them I put seed in my hand and put my hand in the cage my female will eat from my hand but not my male
Usually it is the other way around, espec if or when they pair off.
As suggested in other threads.. dont use seed.. mint, apple kiwi fruit
When feed them the veggies note what they go for 1st.. the sweet corn.
And dont do it after they have had a feed.
Taming/ training is basically about giving them a very good reason for them to do what you want them to do. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
see my husband and I rescued our male kakariki from its last owner who wasn't a very nice owner and our female we got from someone who breeds and raises them so I'm thinking the female is more outgoing than the male due to this. will try the fruit next time I try to tame them both thanks :)
