Hi I have never posted in any forum before or owned a bird before I saw this bird for sale and I just loved her straight away I have a 6 month old kak we have had her for around a month we were told she is a female everything has been fine she is still very shy but has started coming to me through the cage. The last week she has been moulting a lot around her neck and I asked in my local pet store and he said that male kaks moult when the are ready to breed and maybe she is not a she after all. I was going to take her to the store but thought I would ask on here first and see if anyone can help me thank you 👍🏻

Looks like a female from the shape of the head and size of the beak.... A front close up of the bird would be better.

Birds tend to molt after breeding season... build up condition for winter to be in top condition to attract a mate and breed in the early spring... as do most animals fish etc.
We are in middle winter here, our kakariki finished molting a couple months back...Also kakariki in good conditions and good diet etc can often be hard to tell if in moult other than a couple feathers on the bottom of the flight and lacking the iridescent hue .. look a little dull.
Also about 4 to 6 months they do go thru a moult just before they are ready for breeding 1st time basically regardless of season.
Kakariki will breed all year round.
