Those are real nice looking birds..
Even clean behind the ear where the RC has a spot.
So good to see such nice stock these days.

Agree, very nice. Great photos of gorgeous looking birds Chewoo, well done.

The non yellow yellow crown birds look like pure birds; these shouldn't have a yellow spot behind the eye as the true wild birds never do. Sometimes a faint shading but more to do with the ear hole probably.

Here's a current video of some wild YC Kakariki.

Those deserve to be shown off... and the wilds.
We dont have those mutations for YC or RC in NZ, and its is very are to even find such quality YC wilds here in captivity also.
It is this sort quality genetic mutation that NEEDS to be re introduced back into our wild and captive stocks.
Early reports of the late 1700s thru to late 1800s indicate great surprise at the numbers of wild mutations in our RC and YC flocks.
But kakariki where in such great numbers they threaten the crops of our early settlers, so huge flocks where blasted at with scatter shot guns to a devastating effect over many decades.
The wounded survivors where gathered up, especially the mutations and exported to USA Aussie Europe at good profit....So the genetic pools become small... then the introduced rats , possums , ferrets and stoats gained a serious hold on our landscape taking out what was left leaving kakariki and many other species seriously endangered by the 1920s.And with the mutations exported...

I have seen 1 yellow RC in NZ at a small zoo in the middle of the Nth Island, old and in poor condition... over 10 yrs ago.
I seen most mutations in Aussie...
And what struck me was unlike most other mutations in other species, which look unnatural against wild colours...(lorries, burkes , turqs and most finches etc) the kakariki mutations , even the pied, look as they are 'meant to be'

It is very rare to seen such good looking pure YC anywhere in the world
Thank you and
Cheers
Steps.
