My hen Kakariki laid her 1st egg on the 6th July, the last one laid was the seventh on the 19th July. I know it has only been 24 days since she laid the first one but with my other hen they started hatching after 19 days and 20 days. I know the cock is ok as he has had 4 lots of eggs with a different female. I have only lost one chick which was the runt of the chicks and had been trampled on by its siblings. So out of 24 eggs i have had 23 healthy Kaks Wink Any help would be good and i feed them well with egg feed, fruit and all the other extras.

There is a misconception of taking from the day laid with birds
It works like this
The hen lays eggs but doesnt start to incubate til around the time the last egg is laid.
The timer goes on from the point of incubation kakariki 19 to about 21 days depending on ambient temps humidity etc.

If u get over 70% healthy adult birds to egg ratio u are doing good
get 80% and doing excellent....

a note We have a theory that not all eggs are meant to hatch.. they act as a leaning post for when chicks re very young feeding holding necks up etc, and as hot water bottles for the brief periods the hen may leave the nest when young

Diet for feeding , we have always let the parents feed and leave them to do what they have been doing very well for 100s of 1000s of yrs.
Diet.. read the sticky thread "what do u feed..." meat protein along with the rest is essential on a daily basis with fruit... as per that thread.
