When we first had 5 kakariki's one of the young males always looked terrible, losing feathers and generally looking rough, now he has come to full bloom but our older one has replaced him, losing feathers and looking rough, I wondered if they have a hierarchy where the lowest bird does not look impressive. He is 8 yrs old but now looks like his son who was the bald one but now carries all his feathers. Has anyone ever seen this? All the birds have the same diet and all share the same water which carries tonic. The only other bird who looks slightly rough is a lone female but she has all her feathers just does not look as good as her brothers. Thank for any help!
Occasionally one gets a bird that is just untidy.. but not to the extent u describe.
And sometimes in a flock in large flights one will get a bird that gets picked , more to what u describe. The picki8ng is obvious and usually if the picked on bird is remove it stops.
Swapping like u describe doesnt match anything other than maybe u have a worm/ mite issue....
I suggest clean down cages , MIST spray with 50/50 vinegar water, including the birds.. dose with a couple drops of invermectin, important to repeat another 2 o3 times at 10 to 12 day intervals....and ass apple cider vinegar to the chopped veggie diet once a week
The vinegar mist spray and ap0ple cider vinegar should be routine maintenance. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
