Hi,
I recently acquired a bonded pair of Kakarikis about 4 weeks ago.
For about a week the female was spending long times in the Breeding box but had yet laid an egg.
Today I got home from work and did another check in the box and she was there, but this time she didn't move, she was dead.
I'm not sure if its heat related (its been very hot in Melbourne but all the other birds are fine) or egg bound related. I examined her bowel area, etc, and her stomach but couldn't feel anything that felt like an egg.
I'm really saddened by this but I would really like some pointers on potential things to avoid. She was fed seeds, sunflower seeds, sweet corn, grass seeds and other vegetables (along with cuttlefish, etc).
