hi I have been searching the forums for advice or posts so decided to register. I bought a pair of buttercup kakarikis from my nephew who had them a month or so. They were approximately 6 months old when I got them, and have had them for about 5 weeks. I was told they were male and female, they don't let me hold them or touch them yet but happily fly around the sitting room when I let them out and go back in. My hen I think was showing signs of nesting from what I've read so put a nesting box in the cage. Currently she sits in and makes a high pitched cheeping noise is this normal or is she wanting to lay eggs? I have tried reading on many different sites but haven't had much luck on finding out what this noise means. I have never seen them mate so unsure if they have a not any advice would be greatly appreciated their age could be wrong as my nephews never had birds before, I live in the uk thanks michelle I can post a picture and have a video or the noises she makes if this helps thanks again
That sound from the female is an invite to the male....
on the lefty is a "quick Search" block
every thing in your post... from taming to nesting boxes is contained in these forums
also include diet.. a thread "what do you feed...."
Taming, one cant tame down birds that at pairing off mating... like people they are rather to far distracted....And generally the male is to busy protecting the female nesting box territory and stuff. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Thank you so much, I give them fresh fruit i.e apple not having much other luck with veg apart from brocoli hopefully the male will take with her thanks again
Takes a while, even months to wean them off seed as a major food source to veggies fruit left over meats etc....
With birds raised by parent that already eat natural foods , there is no issue at all. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
