Hi,

Thanks for your help in advance. I have had these 2 cheeky birds for about 2 months now.I love them to death. Can someone please help me with their sexing? They are very friendly and will sit on my shoulder and sometimes will let me pet them... If there is a female would you advise to get a nest box? I'm an idiot, but I love my wee birds. Also can you you please tell me type/colour? Like I said, I'm new but want to know how to give my birds the best life possible.......

Richard

Welcome.
These 2 birds have very odd shaped beaks???
Even so I would say they are male.. There is a strip under the wing, is it well defined (female) or fuzzy (male)
Red crown species
As to what mutation , Im not qualified to say, other members will be along to comment on that.

For general care etc use the "quick Search " block on the left... words like diet

Hi!

the green one could be a wilcolor pied or cinnamon pied, I'm not sure.

The yellow one seems to be a goldcheck aka BEC (a combination of dominant and recessive pied). Probably it's cinnamon as the green patches in the face are very light, but it's not very reliable because the pied mutation actually lightens the green areas.

About sexing, I could not really tell.
The underwing stripe in this case is not a valid method because they are faded due to the pied mutation.
Could you try and take a picture in which both birds have a clear shot of the head/beak, even better if it's a head/beak profile.

Btw... before breeding consider that up to 6-7 chicks could hatch, so you would need a spare cage/aviary to wean them.

Cheers/ Pablo

PostPosted: Sat Aug 25, 2012 2:23 am    Post subject: More Pics of my 4 birds

Hi Pablo,

Here are more photos of my birds. Also I have adopted 2 more unknown sexed birds. All 4 seem to be getting along great. I am not sure of their sex though.

Hopefully you will be able to help?

Thank you,

Richard
