|
|
Hello folks
about 2 months ago i got a female for my male. and everything has been dandy they have been at it and all
But these past 2 days the female hasnt been very active. She still eats and does flutter around some time but spends most of her time just sitting there
I was maybe wondering that she maybe is in the verge of laying eggs thus not wanting to move so much? cause i could even caress her back without her flying away.
Best regards
Quon |

Has she been active in the nesting box, laying out the nesting material...then become lathargic?
Have u checked for egg binding?
Has she a regular diet that includes protein, calcuim and phosphorus? _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative' |

She hasnt laid any eggs or done anything for nesting material.
I went and bought some extra vitamin food at the pet store in case.
How would i check about for egg binding?
As for food i usually treat them to whatever im eating. Aside from them getting vegetables.
Im not too entirely sure what to feed them safely with. I know theres a list of what i could give them but most things on that list i cant even translate to. But i try to give them anything they can get |

What ive seemed to notice now while trying to give the birds treat is that she doesnt really react much when i close in from the left eye but reacts with the right eye
And now getting worried she might have lost complete eyesight.
The eye itself looks just like the other one. I cant see any real differences |

Caterats are not uncommon in birds..we have had that happen to our king parrot house parrot a couple yrs back.
Sometimes one can use a good magnifing glass and see the whitish/grey in the eye.

copy paste here and I will see what I can do.
"Treats" most people ineffect give essentual foods that should be in the daily diet as "treats"...that is not a "constant and varied diet" _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative' |

Ive been observing her and it seems a bit odd
Cause she can see ffrom the left side and the right. But sometimes just doesnt respond from them.
And looking at her eyes they look just the same as the males so ive no idea now what it could be
As for diet i give them the ormal parakeet mix bought in the pet shop and i always consult on what i could give them aside from just that
Like pellets and so. And as for vegetables i try to mix it up, past few weeks its only been lettuce , cucumber, paprika , corn and carrots
I do tend to also give them apple and pear |

Forgot to mention
picked also up two things at the pet shop. Though forgot to get them a new mineral rock since the old one kinda fell apart
One is some egg-food
http://www.pajareras.es/images/CliffiMorbidoSupper.jpg
And then all-vitamin which i have to put 4 drops of it in their water. It mentions its good if the bird is hangy and other things |

I suggest getting a vet, thu in the mean time invermectin and apple cider vinigar in the veggies and read the thread "what do you feed..."
U have only had the bird a couple months...it may not have been doesed for worms/mites etc before u got it, nor had the follow up dosages. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative' |

I think she had though, seeing as i bought her the day she got into the store. And i think at least that the control for selling birds is at least checked upon that they are healthy and all that |

damn the no edit button
I also got paper from the store on that she has been checked for
normal movepatterns
eyes/ears
teath/mouse/nose/beak
shape/weight
feet/claws
feather/skin
anus/poop
All of them were checked. She does seem to eat like i mentioned and flutter from time to time. But aside from that she sits there |

How do they do that?....in an avary?
kakariki are very active, put any bird in a cage and be inspected its not going to move around normal. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative' |

She seems to be fine, she jumps around and is a bit active. Just took one hell of a bath.
My concern might be that it can have been a sort of heatstroke? My apartment gets unusually warm due to the sun beeing on the rooftop all day long so it can get kinda warm in here
I did buy a tonload of vegetables yesterday and she seemed more then overjoyed to just flap around like crazy when she saw it. She even tried to reach it through the bars when i came with them so.
Have any of your birds ever had problems with the heat Steptoe? |

Kakariki are extemely hardy to extreme temps..from snow thru tu well into the 40s C.
Some of the Aussie guys had issues a few years ago in an extreme summer well into the high 40s with iron roofs to there avairys and chicks getting over heated. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative' |

Okay, well might be due to she is so young and considering she got born during winter time she might not be that used to heat
Hopefully it will wear off soon as she is showing more activity. But ill be calling a vet tomorrow regarding the eye thing |
