Hi
Have a kakariki that is losing its feathers around its beak, i have treated with front-line for mites but doesn't seem to have worked. The rest of his feathers are fine so wondering if it is not mites.

Have u recieved the 1 Nov 2011 flyer from DoC on PBFD that was sent to all permit holders.

Treat with invomectin couple drops on the back of the head...yes does wrms to..it is a symatic 'insecticide' ie goes in the blood stream, insect bites dies.....and repeat 10 to 12 day s later...a 3rd repeat if ANY doubt.
The repeat are a MUST otherwise is a resistance is built up in the insects they become a resistance strain and u /we will never have a fix.

Also clean down the flights/cages then mist spray including the birds 50/50 vinegar and water.....and apple cider vinger in the veggs each week.
This is a maintance thing...preventive....again a must.
