I'm not any kind of expert but looking at the pic and comparing to my male and female i would say you have a male.....i also have a nesting box and my male spends almost as much time as the female inside it, he's very attentive...
Its the shape of his beak and the stripe under his wing that confuses me. he is hard to handle so i cant get a decent pic of the stripe under his wing. Does your male pluck his feathers in the nesting box?
The male seems very happy , he goes in and out of the nesting box and is being his usual chirpy self, he is eating fine and his feathers seem in good condition , neat no bald patches. So i am unsire why he is mixing the feathers in with the nesting material, i thought it was females who did this when coming up to nesting , hence the iniatial confusion over the sex of the bird?
