Hi i am new to the forum and need a little advice. I recently lost my male kakariki and now my little yellow fronted female is on her own in the aviary.I dont want to get another bird so i would like to bring her indoors where she can have our company. I am not sure what cage would be suitable for her, shes quite a small kakariki. I like the look of the montana san remo but not sure if its too big for her or whether the mini san remo is too small. Any sugestions or advice would be great.
Thanks Val

Personally, I think they are WAY too small- but I suppose it also depends on how much flying & time outside the cage she will spend....?

Hi Val,

I think even the Mini-San Remo would be ok for a single bird, but seeing the difference in price, I'd go for the San Remo.

But then.... I'm partial for one of those full-height "budgie aviaries". Same price and more space for the bird/s.

And then... I would always suggest a companion bird for your kakariki. Despite they aren't cuddly with each other, they do socialize, even with other birds. I would say at least a young male budgie could make a good friend for your kike.

Cheers / Pablo

Personally I reckon they design bird cages for people and not the birds,

They should be low and long a min of 800mm H 1m deep 500mm wide.
And 1/2 to 1" dia perches made of old branches off a tree at the bottom of the cage.
This is where a kakariki still gets outside fly time....longer if doesnt very often
Then set at eye level, preferably to be veiwed side on rather into. (this also applies to display flights and more intersting for breeding flights if have the space to do so)

Cages are boody expensive...a bit of ply, 1" x 1" framing wood, 17mm mesh, few screws, far better for the birds...and the people veiwing...just heavier to move around...but not excessivily.

Avaries /flights basically the same except 2" x 2" framing.
