everyone i was just wondering could i put my budgies in a cage with my kakarikis? or would the kakrikis become aggresive? i am not breeding at the moment so would this be ok?
Agressive??
Think of it this way...you open your front door up, some stangers simpy walk in, uninvited, sit in your chair, help themselves to your food sleep in your bed...and do not leave when asked but insist on staying even being asked to leave politely.
Would you ?
1/be happy and left then take over your home
2/Throw them out even if it meant getting physical?
Would you call you getting physial, agreesive or defending what is rightly yours?
Your kakariki will either throw them out or the company, the only way to know is find out. kakariki are not an agressive bird. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
what I'm about to tell is MY experience, and what works for me may be a disaster for you, so do as you may.
In my aviaries I keep kakariki with other species. I have 1x2m x1.80m high walk in aviaries. I have them with cockatiels, lineolated and budgies. I even introduced budgies and linnies inside the flight "property" of one kakariki cock and they settled down without problem. Then, in another flight that I had 1 pair kike and 1 pair of cockatiels I changed the female cockatiel for another, and the new one wasn't rejected at all.
My opinion is that, at least my kakariki, aren't very territorial, but... I never tried doing that in a cage the size of yours. When I separate any pair of any species into a breeding cage I only leave that pair alone.
i tryed letting out my kakariki out with my budgies for a fly at first they were fine but when they tried to get close to her she went nutty and kept going for the one, so i had to get in the middle and got bit! so just incase i dont let them out together _________________ mom to 1 kakariki, 2 budgies, 2 canaries, 2 cockatiels, 1 port lincoln, 1 senegal and 1 house rabbit
When my kaks weren't breeding they were housed perfectly fine with my red rumps, bourkes and budgies.
I guess it depends on the birds' personalities and who's happy to be boss and who's happy to be a follower.
