Peter, how much of Ornicure do you use per day. Do you use a whole sachet or just some of it.
I'm not sure, I think it is about half a sachet. The normal dose is 1 sachet or 4gr/2 litre calciumfree drinkingwater. My experience was that this dose is to little and after consulting my birdvet, I raised the amount. First in the drinkingwater and after that on their food. Remember, it tastes very bitter.

Thank you Peter
Years ago when we used to be able to get antibiotics off the vet without him seeing the bird i used to keep a tub of both Terramycin & Auremycin by me. They tasted bitter and i used to put honey in the water to mask the taste. If they won't eat the fruit and veg because it is bitter i could always try the water with honey added couldn't i?
Sheila
Honey is indeed a solution to mask the taste but I'm sure that water isn't a good medium to give antibiotics. The dose of 4gr/2 litre is an average and in my opinion generally directed to race pigeons. Compared to parrots, pigeons drink a lot. Budgies for example can survive several weeks without water. I don't know how long Kakariki can survive without water or lets say a faulty assimilation.
Therefore I'm a supporter to add it to their food.

I agree that seems the best way but what if they won't eat the food because it tastes bitter?
My kakarikis won't eat soft or egg food at any time. I have tried several brands and made my own but they won't touch it,even in the breeding season. They are not seed junkies either. They just scratch it out on to the floor as though they are looking for something they havent got. They eat the odd sunflower, odd safflower, a few millet seeds and that is about it . I give parakeet mix and separate pots of different seeds but rarely do i see husks even on the floor. They have a pot with several different fruits and veg every day and i vary what they have but some days they hardly eat any of it. It makes me wonder what they do eat to survive.

Sheila, this is a very important issue. In fact many birds in captivity have this problem. I'm pretty sure that this habit causes other problems. I'm planning to start another topic about this later.
To stay on topic, if they wont eat a particular food then offer only that. Don't be affraid, they will eat it. I recommend moist eggfood of 'Witte molen-Wimo'. I'm sure it's available in the UK(see below). It contains honey and most birds are crazy about it.

Peter,
I can get Witte molen-Wimo (moist) eggfood from Dietek uk so i will send for some and try them with that.I will get 1kg bag to start with and if they eat it i can always get more. I have tried them with Cede, Emp, Orlux & Feast to name a few but not the one you mentioned. Thank you again
